I have been waitinggggg to publish this…
Lemme show you where I got married. This is Ganjam Mantapa in Basavanagudi. Whatte lovely place. Hippie and I instantly fell in love with the place. But it wasn’t available for the date of our wedding. We ran back to Purohita, asked him to give few more auspicious dates for the Wedding. Did not bother about it not being on the Weekend. Our Wedding was on a Wednesday.
All My Wedding Sarees were purchased from Varamahalakshmi Silks. So glad that I did. For the Wedding I hired no Make-up Artist or Hair-stylist or Saree Draper(if there’s such a word). Yen yeno ankondu, I’d shopped a lot from Sephora. But In the end I did no makeup ಮಣ್ಣು ಮಸಿ.
For Naandi and Gauri pooje I wore a Blue Saree. But Blue oh Blueeeee looked gooood.
The Nath is from my Hometown, was made especially for me. My dumbass got her nose pierced on the right when I was in fourth Standard, so I couldn’t find a right side Nath anywhere(we searched in Mumbai’s Vaman Hari Pethe and other shops).
The earrings are from GRT. Kaasina Saraa was made in hometown, few years ago. The Small necklace is from Bhima and the layered neck piece is silver coated with. Gold from Ko Jewellery.
I tied my Hair in a long plait with chouri and put Mallige hoovu. And that ardha chandra bottu was purchased in Mumbai, I hadn’t decided what Bindi I was gonna wear until I found this. Good old maroon coloured bottu.
I was unusually active and cheerful that day. I wore my Menasinkaayi BaLe and Aai’s PaaTlis in midst of plain green Bangles and wore 3 rings on (different) fingers. 😜
One more maja thing was, one week before wedding Purohita, we went to see our Purohita and he said he can’t do our wedding. I began hyperventilating. My Heart was throbbing in my mouth. He’d agreed to do someone else’s wedding. In the end, he only came. We cleared the confusion. Yavva!
“Bagina TogoLi, Bagina TogoLi” three times per Muttaidi. I was getting ready for Muhurtha and this prasanga was remembered. And the Photographers insisted on clicking pics. Well. Here I am, all messy. This is my Atthe and she looks soo happy, alwa?
None of my Sarees and Blouses had embellishments or extra thread work. No Make-up. I didn’t feel it was necessary. Yakappa ಬೇಕು ankonde.
These Gejjes are old. I wore them only once or twice before. I got them polished for the Wedding. Aai wouldn’t buy me gold ones, she was like, ‘Who buys gold ones?’ I was like, ‘Me? ‘. Yeah that didn’t work out. My tantrums are not always fruitful.
Wearing 9 Yards wasn’t really a challenge. I wanted to wear the 9 yards and I have never worn 9 Yards before. You cannot try the Wedding Saree, you wear it directly on the Wedding Day. I’d practiced watching videos. But I’d practiced with a transparent Cotton 9 Yards. (One-could_see-the-underwear-colour transparent). I didn’t freak out much. I think I did decent with a lil help from an aunt.
I did my hair from Chauri to The Bun with not-so-fancy net which was an unexpected purchase in Mumbai. Hippie is wearing Green Shellya.( Sooo much he “thinked” to buy it. Pah!) Actually it is a silk dupatta from FabIndia we thought this would be great with silk Dhoti he wore.
The Basinga is from Hometown. I wanted longer ones but had to wear these. Oo yeah the Daabu/Waist Band has Dashavataara. I thought it was pretty cool. Got it from GRT
. When I saw this Hot pink Silk Saree at Varamahalakshmi, I knew it was the one. I literally selected this in less than five minutes. I generally don’t take long to shop anything. But this was super quick.
We spoke. A lot. Through the entire ceremony. I have no clue what we spoke about. We giggled and laughed and enjoyed the whole day. It was such a breeze considering the last 15 days before the wedding were excruciating.
We’d been running around planning and managing everything. Hippie and I. We were tired. We’d got to the point where we just wanted to get it over with.
Look at my face in the photograph below. ThaaLi Time. And I’m like ‘yay’. Sooo not nervous. But the previous night I was soo overwhelmed I couldn’t breathe. Hippie’s Arms look soo Sexy here no?
He wore this Pink Kurta from Manyavar and cotton Panche when he arrived to the Mantapa in the Morning and he performed Naandi in this. For Yajnopavitha ceremony he obviously had to remove the kurta and for Varapooje wore silk shellya and silk Dhoti.
He looked spectacular in dhoti. He’d refused to wear Gold chain and Bracelet for the Wedding. I insisted. His mother insisted. I’m glad he wore. He doesn’t like wearing gold. On the other hand, I do. I lobe wearing Gold and Silver Ornaments. 💝Yas I’m greedy for moreeee.. Gimme.. ದುರಾಸೆ!
We weren’t supposed to have any reception. We just wanted to sit on the Swing and meet people leisurely and click photographs after Homa.
It was a weekday. Who knew there’d be crowd of 700 odd. We were expecting less than 500. Oh God we had lunch at 4 pm. I hadn’t eaten for almost 20 hours. But we weren’t exhausted. Surprisingly!
The Adige Bhattru were so cool (Krishna Bhatt and Co). They were 35 of them amd as soon as they realized there was food shortage they immediately cooked and served without chaos. No shouting /screaming. We didn’t even realize there was shortage. It was flawless service.
I was smiling like a Kid on Pot after Reception for photos. In most of the photos through I look high AF. But I guess that’s okay. I was happy and so was Hippie.
